Meka Biography

Ms. Meka Nism formed the beginnings of her alternative rock/metal band Meka Nism back in the mid 2000’s originally as dark victorian folk project, Meka Nism and Her Rusty Tears. Meka, former guitar player for Orlando punk glam legends Dirty Barby and front person for theatrical rock band, Angel Autopsy, consistently enchanted audiences with her vivacious stage presence. Hidden Records quickly noticed her as being a unique talent and put her on their independent label. In 2006, “Mad to Love” was recorded and the album was recognized as an exceptional artistic achievement of passion, beauty and quirky humor. "Break," the second track and music video from the album was the WINNER of the Songwriter's Showcase of America's (SSA) Best Experimental Song of the Year – 2006. Meka was also SSA's Solo Artist of the Month - Jan 2007. Explosive with enthusiasm, Meka made a scorching impact on the Florida music scene. She developed a loyal fan base from touring as a solo artist, not only in Florida, but around the US, in areas like NYC, LA, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and more.

In 2007, Ms. Meka Nism took her Mad to Love album to Japan, and soon continued to tour with her performance art infused solo act and as Jpop/American Rock fusion band, Origami Girls. Having played over 150 shows around the country and released 4 Origami Girl duos and her acoustic Robot Eat Sushi ep (music video, Fish Are Swimming), Experimental sessions with Hide Ultra Bide, and Zombie parody movie featuring the music video “Zombie Girls”.

In 2010, with the return of Meka from Japan, the movement to solidify the group as “Meka Nism” began and in March of 2013, the debut EP “The Dance at the End of the World” was released. The band also released their first music video for the single “Bring the Sun Back” in October. 2013. Meka Nism’s debut EP was proof that new sounds, new excitement and new frontiers have not only been explored but have been claimed as their own unique voice in the music industry.

After touring and playing numerous shows in FL and the South East, opening for Mastodon and Gojira at the Kink Festival, and a headlining House of Blues show, Meka Nism began the journey to start “The Shift”. The EP was successfully funded by a Kickstarter campaign back in 2014. Brett Hestla, former bass player for Creed and vocals for Dark New Day, was chosen as the producer and recording began in October of 2014. “The Shift” was released on May 1st with a massive CD Release show at the House of Blues in Orlando.

2015 was a big year for the band as they toured for a month with platinum award winning band, Trapt, all across the mid-west and east coast. Earlier in the year, playing the Texas Showdown Festival in El Paso, Texas, opening for the likes of The Offspring, Upon a Burning Body, and more. Followed by a tour across Texas with Otep.

In 2016, Meka Nism toured with the Swedish power-house, Avatar. Upon returning home, Meka Nism was named Orlando's #1 Metal Band by the Orlando Weekly and was chosen to headline the local stage at the 3rd Annual Kink Festival opening for Evanescence, Hellyeah, and InFlames.

Nothing has seemed to slow down. In 2017, they were given the slot to open the main stage at WJRR's Earthday Birthday 24 with the likes of Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Nonpoint, and more. The new EP, "The War Inside", was recorded in Lubeck,Germany with world renowned producer and engineer, Lasse Lammert. The album became rock critic's favorite around the world, including being named in the top records of 2018 by Unrated Magazine. Meka Nism released 3 music videos from the ep in 2018 including title track, “The War Inside,” “Trailblazer” and” Black Sky.” Ms. Meka also sang our National Anthem in 2018 for EDBD 25 with her dignified rock version to honor our country. Most recently Meka Nism visited the Northeast in 2019 by co-headlining the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA and then Metal in the Mountains in West Virginia with support shows in Maryland, North Carolina, etc. and coming home again to pack the House of Blues and finally, play an epic show with Grammy nominated metal legends DEATH ANGEL to finish off the year. While Meka Nism had many shows booked for 2020, Covid changed everyone’s plans. So, Meka Nism is spending this time writing a new album and re-igniting the vision of the future of alternative metal on a cosmic scale.

Ms. Meka Nism continues to take a creative approach to making powerful and inspiring music. Her visions and collaborations are on the rise.
